Viognier Heathcote

Viognier Heathcote

Story of the wine:
Heathcote was one of the first vine growing districts in Victoria in the early 1850s, but not until the 1960s was there any significant development of vineyards. It is about 80 miles (120 km) due north of Melbourne and is characterised by its extremely old pre-Cambrian soils. The climate makes it ideal for Rhone style wines. Tellurian, Latin for “of the earth”, was established in 2002 by Ian Hopkins, an engineer, who bought a parcel of farming land with great potential for a very good viticultural site. It is now run by his son Daniel. Their first vintage was in 2008, and the vineyard now includes Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Viognier, Marsanne, Rousanne, Rielsing, Nero D’Avola and Fiano.
