Story of the Wine:
La Ferla is the flower of the fennel, which grows well in this part of Sicily. This wine is made from the Inzolia grape, sometimes called Ansonica, and which is distinctly aromatic in character. The winery has recently been rebuilt and with its new winemaker is making wines of outstanding quality.

Area: From vineyards around the town of Canicatti in southern Sicily.
Training System: Espadrella
Harvest: Late September
Vinification: A crio-maceration for several hours is followed by a cool fermentation at 120-160C for 20-30 days in cement vats.
Ageing: Kept for 3 months in stainless steel vats.

This recently modernised co-operative has its vineyards in the south of Sicily around the town of Agrigento. This is regarded as one of the finest districts for the indigenous Nero d'Avola. The winemaker Tonino Guzzo was identified by Decanter magazine as one of Italy's promising stars.
