Story of the Wine:
Essenze is a wine that captures, by blending the wines from several of the best vineyards in the district, the essence of Barolo. The wines from the village of Barolo, are rightly considered amongst the finest in the world. However, the Nebbiolo grape is notoriously fickle and really does not accommodate itself very well outside this small region, south of Torino in Piemonte. All the districts represented in this wine have their own very different characteristics that contribute to the final blend and its flavours. Essenze was first made in 2001 vintage. From the 2010 vintage Barolos can use the name of the commune from which they come – hence Barolo del Comune di Barolo.

Vite Colte, based in Barolo, is a share holding company established in 1980. Owned by 14 co-operatives Vite Colte was given a mission to identify and make wines from the best vineyards from their 2.500 members. Vite Colte has great resources in terms of vineyards all over the region, over 4.500 hectares, from which they are able to select the best grapes to produce some of the finest wines.
At the end of 2015, Terre da Vino has decided to focus on a smaller number of wine growers, that produce best quality wines. To emphasise this new approach they have decided to re-brand these top wines under the name Vite Colte. Literally this phrase has a double meaning referring to vine growers with both knowledge and experience, and this phrase resonates with the word; viticulture.
